| The town, founded by a Moldavian
proprietor Ieremij Mogila has the history of 400 years, which left
a number of bright prints on the territory of modern Mohyliv-Podilsky.
A lot of places of interest are also situated in the picturesque
suburbs of the town.

According to historical data Ieremij Mogila
built a castle in this area and presented it to his son-in-law,
the Brazlav magnate Stefan Potozkij, who named the town after his
father-in-law to express his gratitude. Boundary location of the
town caused a lot of attacks and battles, thus many historical events
took place there.
At a time Polish Hetman Stanislav Jolkevskij
had his headquarters in Mogilev, Petro Sagajdachnuj went to Hotun
from the same place. During the Liberation War in 1648-1654 local
residents actively supported the rebellion against the gentry.
Due to its location on the intersection of trade
ways from Moldova to Ukraine, from Galichina to the Black Sea, the
town at that time was the largest in the Podollia region and exceeded
Kamenez-Podilsky in population. And with the development of navigation
on the Dniestr(second half of the XIX century) and with the construction
of the railway Mogilev became the center of bread trading and an
industrial center of the Pridnestrovie. Revolution, famine, repressions
and the Patriotic War took lives of thousands of Mogilev residents.
During the war the German created ghetto for Jewish population in
Mogilev. Expositions in the Mohyliv-Podilsky museum of local lore
represent the heroic past of the town and its residents.

Dnister
In a picturesque place of Podolia, on the left
bank of the Dniestr the village of Liadovo is situated. It is famous
for its rock monastery. At the height of 90 meters along
high rocks 3 cave churches can be found, the church of John the
Baptist, the church of St.Paraskevu and the church of Antonij Pechorskogo.

Many legends are told about the monastery, some
of them claim that here monastery documents and antiquities are
hidden. They say that one day a monk Antonij Pechorskij settled
there, after hearing the voice of God.
He carved a cell for himself, where he lived
and prayed. The place is especially valued in the monastery. An
ancient well and the spring of Antonij are said to have cured the
pilgrims, stopping in the monastery. Nowadays silence and piece
rules here and people, who are looking for the way to faith and
calm, come here as thousands of years ago…
In the village of Kykavka in the Mohyliv-Podilsky
district the Dmitriev church has remained intact. It was built according
to the project of an outstanding Russian artist V.A.Tropinin
and the painter himself did the wall paintings. In the picture gallery
canvases of Tropinin and of other famous artists are exhibited.
